Greetings PC Elementary Families!
Below are a few updates from Plum City Elementary School:
A goal that I have for this year is to increase communication to parents / families in our district. The combination of proactive and timely communication can be an incredible asset in education. This mid-month newsletter will serve as a brief update to you of items to be aware of from Plum City Elementary School, approximately two weeks after our district newsletter.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working to address a few things in regards to school safety. While our schools are incredibly safe, it is important that we prepare for unlikely threats such as a fire or an intruder. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department has been an incredible ally to our district in protecting our schools. Pierce County will be leading our school intruder drills on October 24th this year. Prior to our drills next week, I will be reading a book called “I’m not scared, I’m prepared” and having age appropriate conversations with our students. If you have any questions on this important topic, please let me know.
On October 1, our school counselor Ms. Ally led our students in a conversation about our character trait responsibility. The students had a great discussion about what this looks like / sounds like. I encourage you to discuss responsibility at home as well. This year, we will continue to have school wide assemblies to introduce our character traits. All of our students do a wonderful job exhibiting good character so, in lieu of individual certificates, we are working on ways to celebrate our students school wide. Stay tuned!
We have a wonderful fine art event coming up. On Wednesday, October 23rd, we will have Careers and Creativity Night. This event is from 6:00-7:00 pm and features many of our departments including Art, Business Ed, Foods, FFA, Forensics, Music, Spanish, and Tech Ed. Students in Student Council and National Honor Society will be giving tours of these departments. Afterwards, there will be a referendum informational session in the gym at approximately 7:00pm. I would encourage you to attend this event, especially if you have a student who might be interested in one of these areas in the future.
As you are likely aware, we have an important referendum on the November 5th ballot. I would encourage you to reference our referendum page. Please reach out to me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Becky Fortney
